Jay A. Heinrichs, senior editor of NationalWildlife Magazine in Washington, D.C., became editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine on December 1. Heinrichs has been a professional writer and editor since graduating in 1977 from Middlebury College where he was editor-in-chief of the college newspaper.
After a year as staff writer for The Futurist, Heinrichs became associate editor of American Forests magazine and for eight years has written for and edited conservation publications. He was editor of the Journal of Forestry, published by the Society of American Foresters, and later was appointed the organization's director of publications.
Heinrichs said, "I consider my work to be that of magazine management as well as editing. Heading Dartmouth's alumni magazine is a real challenge for me the magazine is very much a part of the college, and it must maintain extremely high standards."
