It is not too soon to think about a possible mini-reunion during Class Officers Weekend, May 2-3, 1986. If anyone is interested, please get in touch with either Cap Palmer or me.
A survey of the college presidents in the country listed Stanford as number one of 10 colleges mentioned, and Dartmouth was among the top ten!
Carl Gray has entered the growing number of classmates who have written books. You guessed it-his is about skiing. (A photo of Carl accompanies this column.) Joe Pollard spent the winter in Hanover after summering in Maine. Joe says he has had several appointments at Hitchcock, mostly for conditions which beset us older fellows. I believe his problem was cataracts. Dwight Keef has spent two weeks in Japan and then four months in Tucson. He has not moved, but the post office gives him a new address: RFD 3, Box #141, Hopkinton, NH 03329.
Henry Perkins says there is nothing new. He swims, hikes, skis, and socializes. C.F. "Fitzhugh" Gordon retired as a director of Tucker, Anthony, and R.L. Day 10 years ago and now lives in a well run "old folks" home in Connecticut. His address in Noble Horizons, Salisbury, CT 06068. Ellsworth Reed, also retired, has become a candidate for Carl Gray's Association of Hippies.
Carleton White, now a widower, takes a few cruises, plays golf and does a lot of oil painting. He lives in Tequesta, Fla. Chet Bixby is at it again, working on the bequest and trust program. He and Barbara are planning a trip to Hawaii. PeteJones reports good news from his surgeon and plans to return to his favorite island in the Carribean for the winter.
Cap Palmer in his inimical way has found a new cost to be added to the cost of medicine. It is transportation to the dentist, oculist, or whomever. As they live on a hillside and as Marion requires a wheelchair, the cost of an ambulance round trip is $180 and is not covered by Medicare, Medex, or whatever you have. Carlos Sanches, retired, made a trip to Boston to see his brother, who is a Harvard graduate in international law. He is nostalgic of the great Dartmouth we all knew. Nat Harmon has settled into a retirement home, Greenfields in Arizona. His address is 13617 North 55th Avenue, Phoenix 85034. He would welcome any winter visitor to Phoenix. Clarence Goss has just received his pin recognizing 55 years in service to freemasonry. He is a past master of the Apawanis Lodge in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Arthur Quirk '59 writes of Charlie Zimmerman: "Your inspiration and willingness to help others has influenced many to apply their time, talents, and energy in raising funds and developing worthy projects." Congratulations, Charlie, for all you have done, especially for the College.
In closing, to quote Ben Franklin: "There are three old faithfuls; an old wife, and old dog, and ready money."
