It happened. I just received word that the first baby born to an '85 made his appearance on December 2, 1985. The lucky parents? Laura Fried Yecies and Steve '84. Laura reports that Derek William weighed seven pounds, eight ounces and is happy and healthy in Washington, D.C. Congratulations!
James "Sonny" Hanson is working for Pacific Investment Management and Portfolio Company (PIMCO) in Carson, Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles. His work, though mostly secretarial, is "fab." He's also happy to say that he's in fine shape and that his mother's jokes about his looking "a bit preggers" have almost stopped. James has seen Jeff Healy, who invites any '85s in the Sun Valley area to drop in and enjoy drinks from the restaurant in which he works.
My apologies to John Duer for writing that he's already in Europe. John was actually in Oklahoma finishing the Officers Basic Course in field artillery. After two vibrant weeks of revelry in New York over the holidays, John attended his follow-on course. Then, in April, he'll join his unit in Stuttgart just in time for the drive east into the Ukraine.
Somewhere in Oklahoma John earned the nickname of "Bullethead" for his impressive cranial structure introduced to the world by an Army barber. Oh well, John, wouldn't you rather be called Bullethead" than "Moss man," given the recent Playboy article? (Just kidding, Steve!)
I wonder if Karin Wilson has been aware of Dartmouth's recent bad press. She returned to Jamaica to work for a year with a government agency before returning to the U.S. next year for grad school in international affairs.
Fran Swift certainly couldn't miss all the excitement in Hanover. He's at Thayer with Lance Portland, AndyCrowe, and Pete Massarelli. Other '85s in Fran's house are Glenn Jordan and JimLeightheiser, who are both waiters in Hanover. Chris Little is back in the Hanover area as well. Though he's living in Woodstock, he's coaching Dartmouth lacrosse.
While visiting her brother at the Holderness School in Plymouth, N.H., SusieReynolds ran into Jory Macomber, who's enjoying the boarding school scene. He's having a great season teaching, coaching, and skiing. Katie Mulligan is teaching, coaching, and skiing and being a dorm mother at Vermont Academy, a small prep/private school in Vermont.
Laura Robertson is spending the winter working at Breckenridge Outdoor Educational Center. Fortunately, she's close enough to the Breckenridge slopes to get in some good skiing!
And then there are the Bostonians. Mimi Ward and Amanda Livingston are now living together on Beacon Street in Boston. Tom Eldridge finished working at the Conservation Law Foundation in late November. Now he's in the attorney general's office in their Department of Environmental Protection. After finishing in the top half of last year's Newport Marathon, Tom's planning to run the Boston Marathon this April.
I heard all about Alumni Weekend from Gayle Gilman, who returned to Hanover to ski and visit with Sue Finegan and Jo Ann Shannon. Though they skied two half-days, it sounds like most of their time was spent socializing over Dirty Birds and Rolling Rocks. Also in Hanover for the weekend was Tim Coughlin, who is living in Washington, D.C. Tim has recently been accepted into several law schools! Michael Reilly, Jill Owens, BobJangro, Bo Borek, Doug Fulton, ScottMac Donald, Tom Klupchak, Jeff Howe,Kent Croft, and many others were there. Please take some time to write about you and your '85 friends! Thanks!
