Greetings. I trust that everyone had an enjoyable summer. Let's hope that our paths cross at some point this fall during a football weekend. I know that Brad Little is organizing a mini-reunion for one of the games (Harvard?), so watch your mail for the notice.
I must begin this column with words of thanks and congratulations to GeorgeWolohojian, our head class agent. George did a great job for the 1986 Alumni Fund. While I do not have the final figures yet (this is being written just after Fund closed), it is my understanding that we surpassed our class goal for 1986. BarryBrensinger, currently an architect in Manchester, N.H., was the participation chairman, and Barry was also instrumental in the success of this year's Fund. Many thanks to all of you who made contributions.
A great story related to me by GeorgeWolohojian is worth repeating. In June George called Craig Colberg, currently an institutional broker with Goldham, Sachs and living in London, about the Fund. Craig was then in California, and George was given his California telephone number. George was calling from North Carolina. Craig told George that he was about to fly out to Norfolk, Va., rent a car, and join his family for a vacation in North Carolina. No problem. The next day he met George in North Carolina and hand delivered his check for the Alumni Fund! Beat that, and I'll buy you dinner at the Hanover Inn.
In regard to other class news, George reported that Mike DeVries was performing at the Kennedy Center in a major role with the musical Carousel. It's on its way to Broadway, and Mike may already be there. He plays a role of Mr. Snow.
A newspaper article brought news of Rob Sawyer. He is now living in Marion, Mass., and is a specialist in primary care internal medicine at the Parkwood Hospital, which is located nearby. Before moving to Massachusetts, Rob was chief of the Department of Medicine and clinical medical director of Family Health Services at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard, Ky. After Dartmouth, Rob earned his medical degree at the University of Vermont. He completed his internship and residency at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston. Special and belated kudos are due to Rob as he was awarded the "Outstanding Achievement Award" by the National Health Service Corps in 1982.
George Leach is leaving his job as an admissions officer at the Harvard Business School and will soon be joining Merrill Lynch in their personnel department.
Great news from my 01' roommate Dave Clark. He and his wife, Margie Wagers, are the proud parents of their second son, David Hamilton. Their other boy, Robey, is reportedly handling it well no sharp instruments or piano wires. Dave has left the formal practice of the law in Atlanta and is now an officer and part owner of the Hephaestus Corporation, a construction and land development company in the Upper Valley. Dave's wife, Margie, is also an attorney and works in risk management at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital.
That's it for now. See you next month.
