Greetings from what most rational folks would call the hottest place on Earth—Houston, Tex. Of course, most rational folks don't LIVE in Houston in the summer, but then there are us diehard natives... .As one of your new class secretaries (and a mother-to-be for the second time in two years—yes, my husband I have finally figured out how the process works!), I look forward to bringing you interesting, neverbefore-heard news about our class. One hintif you don't send me good dirt (I mean factual information) on you and your buddy alums (see address below), then I will be forced to ramble on about the virtues of Southern living. So consider yourself warned....
Even though Reunion is quickly fading into a wonderful memory (I can't believe how little Hanover has changed), I still have some good gossip from the weekend. Ben Zimmerman spends his time jetting between the U.S. and Tel Aviv, promoting American investment in Israel (I hope I remembered that right Ben, let me know if I'm senile). Terri (Sergesketter) Heath is mother of Catherine (with Brice the father) and a consultant developing marketing strategies for German companies. Lynn Fabrizio is a soon-to-be crowned attorney after spending many years working at the U.S. Department of Commerce by day and attending Georgetown Law School at night. Merle Weiner, first-time mother (any details Merle?) and her husband, Tom, are living in Mt. Vernon, lowa, where Merle is a law professor at the University of lowa. And Karen (Garbe) Matjucha and her husband, Ippolit, are new homeowners in Sudbury, Mass., where Ippolit is a professor at Boston University Medical School and Karen is a senior manager, soon to be partner, with Deloitte & Touche.
Some non-Reunion but noteworthy events to pass on. JeffWeitzman (okay, he was Reunion chair, but this isn't related) was promoted to chief operating officer of Counsel Connect, an online communications and information service for lawyers. Chris Hansen is doing his best to save trees with his new company, PC411 Inc., which provides online access to yellow and white pages for all of North America. Speaking of online, don't forget to use email to keep in touch. I love to chat online and there is no better way to get your name in the DAM (of course, for some of you that might not be an incentive)!
Back to the news...Scott Borek is the new head coach of men's hockey at Lake Superior State University. Phil Silverman recently quit his job as a bankruptcy attorney and co-wrote a book on college football antics called Saturday Afternoon Madness. Some people really know how to live...finally, no column would be complete without babies (see earlier notes) and weddings. This month's wedding story comes from Dr. Aloke Mandal, who wrote of his marriage to Fabrienne Marsh, a graduate of Williams College and producer/write. Says Mandal: "I knew that my major in English literature would come in handy!" Mandal's guest list included James Burack (now in Washington, D.C., with the Police Executive Research Forum; Tod Black (working in NYC in arbitrage), and Matt Cocks (best man, but no word on his job). And Paul Kumar Mandall, class of 2018, is already learning to pour beer in anticipation of his father's 30th Dartmouth Reunion. (And I thought my daughter, Leah Jessica, was advanced!)
Well that's it. Stay/get in touch, PLEASE.
