Gale Freeman wrote that the Freemans would be at their place in New Mexico this past summer and then again in late September. Gale had a lot of good things to say about Art Spiegel's work in Albuquerque.

Bill Wendell wrote that he couldn't follow around the Seniors' Open Golf Tournament in Bridgeport because he can't take the sun any longer (same here), also that he planned on being in Hanover for the Princeton weekend.

A most interesting note from Doug Wilson describing his work in the editing of the collected works of Ralph Waldo Emerson, done jointly with two colleagues for Harvard Press. The fourth volume, Representative Men, will have gone to press by the time this appears in the Magazine. Doug was working on Volume 9, with one more scheduled. Doug's portion of the work for the fourth volume includes: the text; the "Textual Introduction"; the lists of all emendations and of variant readings not used; the annex describing the manuscript, and all of Emerson's alterations in it—many of which, Doug explained, were made because the manuscript (although used as printer's copy) was not a clean copy but the final working draft. Doug enclosed a clipping from the Anniston (AL) Star describing his work and including a photo of Doug sporting the finest beard and moustache I recall seeing on a classmate.

Charlie Dwyer sent a photo of Red Rolfe and him in '31 baseball uniforms in front of Topliff in 1928, and another of the team: Harvey, Andres, Frigard, George, Dabrowski, Hausman, Rolfe, Dwyer, and Wolff. He added that Frederick, Bond, and others were missing. Any names out there? Marnee and Charlie plan to fly to Seattle then do the Canadian Rockies this year. They had attended the Aquinas House retirement function for Msgr. Nolan last spring, and early this summer had dinner with Rose and Hank McCarthy.

Frank Hardinge wrote that he has corresponded with both our new and former presidents regarding controversial issues at the College. In my view he is to be commended for expressing his concern and his opinions directly to these executives. He feels that most alumni are too complacent in this respect. Probably applies to us conservatives here in the Central Pennsylvania Enrollment District because it regularly sends some great kids to Hanover. For example, for the class of '87: the valedictorian; a fine running back; and a senior editor of the Review. Now if we can get off our butts and divert some more Joe Paterno material!
