In a July letter Sam Groves wrote that the Groveses had enjoyed their stays in their Outing Club-style cabin in Hancock, N.H., for the past 36 summers, but lately, however, that the grouse shooting had become extinct, and that houses were everywhere with more going up. The fly fishing remains fair, he also wrote, but they belong to a great trout-fishing club in Ohio where they go several times a season.

Sam's comments on how the administration and faculty of a university view their trustees reminded me of Went Eldredge's telling me years ago of how the Hanover establishment viewed the alumni attending reunions. These views, in turn, reminded me of a conversation, also years ago, in which a Colombian told me that the Bogota high society viewed a certain social climber in the way a rancher would view a jackass which was about to jump a fence to enter a pasture of the rancher's blooded mares.

A sleeper to challenge the present kings of the '31 Great Grandchildren Sweepstakes may be John Feltner, who wrote that he has 18 grandchildren but no greats as yet. Therefore, don't look over your shoulders, Messrs. Borkum, Nickum, and RogerWilliams!

A beautiful card from the Fred Slaughter family, to whom I was glad to be able to forward a letter from Fred's close friend in Hanover, Buss Burrows '32.

A note from class secretary Bruce Crawford '49 thanking me for relaying ErnieMoore's newspaper clippings on Thad Sey- mour's ('49 A) accomplishments.

To those interested I'll gladly send a report on my recent venture West, which combined a super Elderhostel program by Montana State University and 3 Bear Lodge on the geology, flora, and fauna of Yellow- stone Park with trout fishing in the park and in Montana. A great 12 days.

I couldn't find any other '31ers in the stands at the Bucknell game in which our team put on a good show (leading at the half) against an excellent Bucknell team which is coached by a Dartmouth '70. Best of holidays to all.
