Before anything else, it is fitting for us in the class of 1948 to welcome as the 15th president of Dartmouth College New Hampshire-born James Freedman who took over the reins in the Wheelock Succession from Dave McLaughlin on July 19th. Let all '48s wish him personal inner satisfaction and enjoyment in effectively carrying out a tough job to the greater benefit of the wider community of which each of us is a part.

To my knowledge this column has never saluted the many '48 class agents whose efforts join those of the chief agent to assure success of Alumni Fund campaigns. BudElliott, who did such a fine job this year, advises that the following men participated in the drive and deserve our thanks for carrying out that absolutely toughest of tasks, asking for money: Marv Axelrod,Russ Carlson, '48 class president EarlChambers, Moose Concannon, Bob Douglas, Bob Foster, Al Fritzsche, Dick Greene,John Hatheway, Bob Herrick, Joe Hickman, class newsletter editor Barney Hoisington, Dick Leggat, Al McMichael, DickRuggles, Harry Shaw, Jim Schaefer, PhilShepard, John Van Raalte, and Sam Wilkinson.

Also not to be forgotten are those stalwarts Irv Tuttle, Jay Rutledge, and JohnVan Raalte who participated in the evening telethons sponsored by the College, a great way to get back in touch with some of your old friends as well as put the bite on them for a few bucks for Eleazar. Among them these men helped convince 228 of their classmates to help the College—and a large proportion of the funds so collected will support the scholarship aid program as administered by Barney Hoisington to help qualified kids who otherwise could not afford Dartmouth. Not a bad way to return something to our alma mater, methinks.

Congratulations to Jack McKeon who late last year became president of Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company, a new joint venture based in Chicago owned 51 percent by FMC Corporation and 49 percent by Sumitomo Heavy Industries of Tokyo. Jack has been a corporate officer of FMC for 12 years, and his new company's plant in Lexington, Ky., manufactures and markets equipment for construction and related heavy industries worldwide. Nice going, Jack.

Gerry Peck, who went to California 35 years ago, lives with his family in Los Angeles where he's district sales manager for Lightolier. Gerry has traveled the world since leaving Hanover, but remembers fondly old Vl2 friends Russ Carlson and Earl Chambers as well as his roommate, the late Lew Aronowitz. Bob Foster had the pleasure of seeing his fourth son, Daniel, graduate in Hanover this past June. During the 38 years Bob has worked for the Travelers in Hartford he and Sally have raised five boys and two girls, with the youngest off to college this fall. Bob says he'll be at the '4B Fortieth next June and hopes to see many old friends. Bud Gedney and his committee hope you're making similar plans to be in The Granite State in '88.

Hope you see Buddy Teevens's gridiron men on some good Saturday afternoons this fall.
