The class of 1958 enjoys special connections with Dartmouth's President James Freedman. Our class president John Graf and New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice Dave Brock both attended kindergarten through high school with President Freedman. Dave was also on the Central High School debate team with him. John, Dave, and Walt Yusen attended President Freedman's inauguration in Hanover July 19.

An extraordinary honor recently came to Palmer Beasley, who received the General Motors Cancer Research Foundation prize. The prize is given to four scientists whose work led to major advances in the treatment, prevention, and understanding of cancer. Each prize carries a $100,000 award plus $30,000 to cover expenses for scientific conferences or workshops. Palmer, who is associated with the University of California at San Francisco, is cited for his studies of hepatitis B virus and its link to cancer.

HTA Architectural Associates, Manchester, N.H., has appointed Mori Mitsui as its new CEO. Mori is a graduate of Yale Architectural School. His firm is a member of the HTA Companies which provide planning, architectural, engineering, and surveying services to New England and Florida. HTA Companies employ 225 people and have projected 1987 billings of $12 million.

Craig Haines Jr., who has the good sense to live in Mystic, Conn., has just been named division vice president, material, for the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics. Craig has held positions of increasing responsibility with Electric Boat, most recently serving as assistant general manager of material. He earned a master's in administration from the University of Rhode Island.

Reunion presented a wonderful break from his work as head of manufacturing for ACCO Fasteners for Gresh Abraham. TomAmlicke, sharply dressed, convinced his wife to dance when fifties music was played even though she had an injured ankle. They were an especially graceful couple. While John Armstrong was enjoying the golf course that he loved so much in the fifties his wife Marcia returned looking smashing in a new dress from Campions.

I talked to Clarke Bittner about his new career as a male model. He has made ads for Sony and other national products as well as many regional advertisements. Clarke has appeared in speaking roles in the network, daytime soaps. He says auditioning is the work of his trade and the performance is the fun. John Murphy took a great picture of Clarke and Ben McAdams, as well as photographing many reunion activities.

Bill Cutcliffe did such a fine job as minireunion chairman before Bob Gilges took over. He is one of our classmates who looks younger and has the same dark hair as in years past. Jim Davidow has gone full cycle. After having worked in Chicago and other places around the country, he has now returned to New Hampshire, which he loves.

Hal Douglas said he found the insurance business boring but has enjoyed the wholesale flower business in Portland, Ore., for the past few years. There is no commuting problem in Portland if you get up at 4 a.m. as florists do.

We briefly glimpsed the Phil Drescher family as Phil came to Hanover for his son's graduation from Dartmouth and the first day of our reunion, then rushed back to California for the graduation of another son from high school. In his absence, Phil was elected to the class executive committee.

There are many ways you can tell about Dartmouth loyalty. George Failmezger seemed to enjoy every moment of reunion. His Virginia license plate is "DKE 58."
