Loving the Dartmouth Life: A View from a '90

During her freshman year Liana Loh '90, recipient of a Dartmouth scholarship provided by the Dartmouth Club of Princeton, N.J., wrote to club member Elizabeth Sword '79 to explain what her Dartmouth experience means to her. Loh, who is studying Chinese and works in the Asian Studies Program office, has taken to Dartmouth with an enthusiasm that is infectious, as her excerpted letter shows:

The more I learn about Dartmouth and this community, the more I love it here. I had such great expectations of college, and Dartmouth has not only grandly fulfilled them, but also she has surpassed many of them. Beginning with my freshman trip, I've realized how happy I am here. So, at this point, I just cannot imagine myself being anywhere else.

It's rare that I succumb to depression, but when I do, I need only to walk around the beautiful campus or to visit the museum's impressive collections before I feel a smile tugging at the corners of my mouth. Dartmouth easily coaxes me out of difficult moods while easily encouraging my happiness. Parties, dances, formals, movies, plays, midnight pizzas, marathon Star Trek showings Dartmouth offers me so very much. Unique activities like skiing at our own skiway, seeing Robert Redford, building bonfires, and creating snow sculptures add to the richness of Dartmouth. I know that I'll always love Dartmouth and be thankful that I'm here.
