At the height of the summer driving season, about three cars per day were hit by golf balls as they passed the golf course on the Lyme Road. College officials responded to the irate drivers by altering the seventh hole and closing the tenth green. Golf scores went down, fewer windshields were broken, and still there were irate drivers the golfing kind. Some golfers asked for a partial refund of their club dues because they could play only 17 holes.
