Setting a goal is easy. Making it happen isn't. Exceeding it is remarkable. We did all three!
In 1987, 24,111 alumni—65%—gave a record $12,028,617. That is a 9.1% increase over last year. The Parents Fund also set a new record: $564,687. The Class of 1962, celebrating its 25th Reunion, set a new record of $1,651,962; the Class of 1976 set a 10th Reunion record of $155,263; the Class of 1982 set a 5th Reunion record of $67,362; and the new Dartmouth Alumni Fund Associates program for gifts over $1,000 surpassed expectations with 2,063 donors.
I am pleased that the Associates program has begun so well. This year there was a 27% increase in gifts of $1,000 or more. I have always been proud of our alumni participation, but not so proud of the number of large gifts Dartmouth receives. The success of this program is a move in the right direction.

Contributing to the Alumni Fund is but one way alumni express their unique devotion to Dartmouth. Year in and year out, we are copied and imitated but seldom surpassed by our sister institutions. Our head agents are tireless, our reunion giving chairmen dedicated, and our telethon and participation coordinators committed. Dartmouth's 4,253 class agents, who worked so diligently throughout the year, helped us to achieve our goals. Most importantly, our alumni and our friends were generous. Thanks to each of you who worked for and who gave to the 1987 Dartmouth Alumni Fund.
