Back to the Future, we're in Hanover again. The old/new locale brings new beginnings, not just to us but others as well. Kenny and Janet Rosenfield are the happy parents of Cory Joseph, born September 9 in .Newton, Mass. We stopped by to see them, and welcome Cory to his first New England fall, glittering and colorful. En route between California and New England, we stopped by to see Frank '74 and Marian Meijer Doorley, giving us a chance to greet Liam Francis, born in July. They are enjoying new work and redecorating a new home in Midland, Mich. We missed seeing Janet Kluczynski there by just a day; new babies attract old friends.
Other beginnings: Ort Hicks, v. p. emeritus of the College, wrote that Amy Semmes married John Waite in Wonalancet, N.H., on July 11. Elizabeth Cronin married Michael Urban '78 recently at Aquinas Chapel in Hanover; Liz, an attorney, is the law clerk for the governor of Maine (Jock McKernan '70). And Tim Carroll's brother James '66 sent word that Tim, a financial analyst with DuPont in Delaware, is down under, setting up an explosives manufacturing company in Australia.
Shortly after the tenth reunion festivities in June, chairpeople Bambi and SandyWood took a summer hiatus (not too surprising!) including some house sitting in the Upper Valley, followed by vacation at the shore. Her magnificent effort in leading the reunion organization brought Bambi honorary membership in the class, and we bid her welcome, indeed.
Our last few days in California included a visit from Bob Rennicks, who reminisced with us during our garage-clearing yard sale. Bob is entering the last phase of his Ph.D. work in comparative literature at Berkeley, having "only" a thesis to complete! Also in that category is Dave Long, who will be finishing a doctorate in English at Stanford this year. Further along, StuartKurland, a professor of English, participated in the NEH Summer Seminar entitled "Shakespeare and Politics" at U.Va.
During our first few days here we crossed paths with several classmates. Susan VanWie Kastan is also at the Thayer School, as director of development. Sue Wiley Young drove by Al in front of Parkhurst, as he followed old (bad) habit by jaywalking in front of her car.
And Michael Hogan, technical operations manager at Kiewit, was met auditioning for the Handel Society.
We move into our new home in Norwich on October 1. Looks like John '75 and PamRowland Bartlett and their children will be our first house guests the following weekend. They will be attending the seminars concurrent with the groundbreaking for the new addition to the Thayer School, followed by one of their frequent family bike trips in the Vermont countryside. We can hardly wait to see if the reality of biking with two children under four (and the associated baggage) matches our imagination.
You may have noticed the Alumni Magazine has a new format for columns, with "sidebars." Should you have interesting pictures, anecdotes, etc., which would be appropriate for them, let us know and we'll help work something up.
