Rabbi Michael Paley will leave his position of associate chaplain at Dartmouth in June and become the director of Columbia's Earl Hill Center. Paley's new position is comparable to that of the dean of Dartmouth's Tucker Foundation. In addition to serving as a university chaplain, Paley will coordinate all religious activities on campus. Paley is the first rabbi to fill such a position at any Ivy League school.
During his Dartmouth tenure, Paley worked to increase the percentage of Jewish students at Dartmouth and to reintroduce Hebrew into the College curriculum.
