Ernie Grinnell called in to warn us that he was coming east to attend the Dartmouth Institute. He and Chris were just back from Florida and before that, just back from a month of golf in Australia and New Zealand. They enjoyed the trip but commented that civilization there doesn't compare with what we have here, and that the airplane trip is a long one. Ernie reported that Ed and Dee Spiegel are wintering in Florida and that Carl Holekamp must be around, for Ernie occasionally sees Carl's wife when he, Ernie, is doing the family shopping.

Wally Farr had a real go-around with a kidney problem a couple of months ago but happily reports that all now is well.

Joe Wilder of lacrosse fame made it recently to the op ed page of the New YorkTimes with a piece on why surgeons should develop ambidexterity. He concludes:

"Chappie Blackburn, the trainer for Joe Louis, taught Joe to develop a devastating left punch by literally tying his right hand behind his back. Gil Glancy did the same thing with the great Emil Griffith. I have been tempted over the years to do this with my surgical residents. The premise that the two-handed athlete is far superior to the one-handed athlete has by now been established beyond all question.I believe there will come a time in surgery when surgeons will be forced to learn to use both hands. A one-handed surgeon is a disadvantaged expert."

The missing classmates (as far as the College is concerned!) this month are BobFlanigan and Bill Fowler. Will you two guys please come clean. Send a card to the College, or to me, on your whereabouts. Thanks.
