I hope your summer body was a little more suntanned than Jeff Capwell's. Granted, Jeff was landlocked in Binghamton, N.Y., so he didn't have many chances to hang ten. But one would think that a fellow with the upper body development of Jeff would often parade around topless. Unfortunately Jeff's boss insisted he wear ox-ford cloth with his necktie. Jeff passed the summer in a law firm where much of his time was spent defending an old geezer from indecent exposure charges (this project led to some interesting fact finding). He has returned to Syracuse University, where he continues studying law with the hope of gaining the skills necessary to defend streakers everywhere.

One of our friends in the class of 1987, Janet Raiffa, reports that Jeff Waddle's body is, for the most part (or should that be, "at least most parts"), nicely tanned. For the last year Jeff's body has absorbed some of the ultra-violet rays bombarding Prance, where he has been working for a Parisian law firm. After ending his stint of sending villians to the guillotine Jeff will waddle to the University of Chicago to study law.

Perhaps Jaimie Gruver's body is palest of all. He spent the last year studying chem- istry at Oxford. Coppertone isn't sold in England, and, besides, how tan can one get in that chemistry lab? Wolf Weber's pigment cells might have worked the hardest. Fed up with four years of rowing in icy waters, Wolf relocated his body to California, where he is enrolled in an engineering program at Stanford.

Jim O'Shaughnessy is in health care, so he knows better than to expose himself . . . (to excessive sunlight, that is). Jim is in a management training program at Smithkline Beckman in Philadelphia, where he shares a pad with Bruce Chaffee. Bruce works for a financial software consulting firm when he's not sailing the high seas.

Dave Pritchard and Julie Spiegelman each acquired memberships along the tropical shores of Lake Michigan; Julie further developed her tan on a jaunt to Hawaii. Since the Chicago sun doesn't shine strongly at night the couple had to find other ways to occupy their body and brains. The summer highlight was a jam by Otis Rush ("the king of the blues") in a bar as beaten up as a Dartmouth fraternity. Dave is a health care consultant with Baxter Travenol; Julie works in the real estate department of the First National Bank of Chicago.

Seems like the class has done a noble job of exercising church organists' fingers. Lots of weddings and engagements this summer. Alphabetically:

Nancy Bronder and Philip Major swapped rings in Hanover. After much debate they decided not to have the party catered by Thayer, but a goldcoat was appointed ring bearer. Nancy will be enduring graduate study in the history and philosophy of science, while her husband will teach elementary school.

Gerri Brother and Jeff Weiss raked in the wedding gifts this summer. Jeff is studying law at Harvard, Gerri at Boston University (the kids won't win many arguments in this family). Included amongst the presents were several massive law textbooks, which, when not being used for classes, will double nicely as furniture.

Julie Glichhouse tied the knot with Andrew Mannes. Hopefully Julie finagled money from her contacts at the Chemical Bank in order to pay her husband's medical school bills.

Jeanne Morriello has announced that she might marry John Clark. Not one to rush into things, Jeanne won't decide for sure until sometime in 1988, the tentative year for the wedding.

The mad rush of '86s from the singles bar to the honeymoon suite has resulted in the inevitable. Sit down. Relax. Now get the abacus out and calculate how old mom was when she gave birth to her first little critter. That young, huh? Already the class of 1986 is gracing the world with the next generation. On May 31 a mighty stork flapped all the way to Panama to deliver a daughter to Liza Henriquez Sosa and her husband. Analisa initially weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz., but Liza placed the infant on a crash diet to get her down to 8 lbs. 6 oz., a weight she plans to maintain until homecoming. Once this weight becomes sustainable Liza promises to feed the baby steroids until it levels off at 86 lbs.

Two of our classmates have gotten involved in international politics. Phil Marchal is studying international relations in Bologna, working on his Italian, and making lots of art history field trips. He'll continue his second year in the Johns Hopkins program in D.C.

Rajiv Menon has enjoyed a sort of apprenticeship in international affairs. He recently checked out the action in London, Amsterdam, Cairo, and India. His diplomatic mission included a sunrise meeting with Jesse Jackson at the Giza pyramids. He has returned to Hanover, where he's finishing his thesis and applying to graduate school.
