The executive committee of the class of 1950 met on Saturday morning, September 17, in the tent outside Dave Taylor's Sunset Motel. Joel Leavitt greeted the 25 attendees at 9:20 a.m. and adjourned the meeting two-and-a-half hours later. Some highlights follow.

After a moment of silence in remembrance of half a dozen recently deceased members, Ben Shaver discussed our fiscal condition (satisfactory) and requested prompt response to his solicitation to pay class dues. They are now a paltry $25, increased from last year in an effort to overcome higher postage costs among other things. You can send your check to 315 Blunt Alumni Center, Hanover 03755. You are encouraged to add a contribution to the 1950 Endowment Fund, which was established a year ago. More on that later. JackHarlow told us we attained 70.9 percent participation in the Alumni Fund. The results, thanks to the efforts of some 84 assistant class agents and heavy-duty personal calls by a few individuals, elicited a well deserved round of applause.

Joe Medlicott apologized for the tardy publication of his 5ifty Newsletter, which was distributed in Xerox form at the meeting and arrived in the mail a few days later, a bit late for classmates to learn about plans for the weekend's mini-reunion. Which reminds me that there were an even 60 classmates, spouses, and cronies at dinner that evening after a soaking afternoon of pretty good but not good enough football against the Quakers. Joe waxed eloquent on the question "arrogant harassment" and freedom of speech. That led to a lot of discussion later in the meeting on the topic and a unanimous vote by the committee to write a letter of support to President Freedman in his commitment to foster rational and civil debate on controversial issues.

Len Matless, head honcho for Hanover happenings with significant support and service by other "townies," told us the midwinter mini will be held Friday to Sunday, February 24—26, in conjunction with the Winterfest weekend. Hope you mark your calendar and join us then!

Newc Eldredge reported that we have 132 trees planted on campus after seven were placed last year. The nefarious dogs jumped out of an old Jacko cartoon and did what they had to do.

Bill Carpenter reviewed the Review discussion at the recent Alumni Council meeting and the response was a vote by the committee as mentioned above. He also asked for support of the Athletic Sponsor Program, which is working well in its relative infancy.

We were delighted to have Betsy Pinkham, head of our widows' program, at the meeting and to welcome Chris Carey and Sally Deavitt for the mini.

Our constitution is being up-dated, primarily to add the office of veep and possibly establish an echelon of succession. You'll hear more about that after Fizz Nichols does some more wordsmithing.

But for now, 'bye and happy holidays. See ya next year.
