MINI MEMO
"It was the best of times . . Now, how Charles Dickens could have predicted that more than a century before '50s mini-reunion last February 20-22 is anybody's guess, but for all who were on hand, it came close to being the best. Census figures by the maitre'd indicated three dozen plus two (not counting a pair of '49 invaders). A few scant observations may follow, but you can scan 5ifty for the real nitty gritty.
The 1950 Class Executive Committee did meet in Crosby on Saturday morning and several items must and will be reported here. If you want a copy of the minutes, such as they are, just ask. Three mini-reunions are planned for next fall: September 18-20 in Hanover (ExeComm meeting) for the Princeton game, at Harvard October 16- 17 (big bash at the Copley Friday night for them and us, classes of '45 through '50), and an "informal" tailgate to do before the Yale game (Halloween). Be there!
Jack Harlow reported on progress of our efforts to date on the Alumni Fund. Good news and bad news. If you've already sent a contribution, consider an increase before June 15. If you forgot till now, please get with it. You know why.
Newc Eldredge told us how we're doing (quite well, thank you) on our trees program. We can find 118 of them around the campus although not all have plaques.
Ben Shaver claims there's money in the till. Ours, not his. And he was authorized to add a donation line to the forms requesting that you ante up dues next fall so that you can contribute to the 1950 Endowment which was established last year.
Dick Echikson (in absentia) revealed that we're supporting half an internship for a student at Collis.
Both Frank Harrington and Bill Carpenter, members of the Alumni Council, made cogent comments on their activities. Again, see sifty for elaboration.
Betsy Pinkham told us about the success to date of the recently established support program for widows of classmates. RATTLE PRATTLE
Now there's a heading you weren't expecting, but one of our classmate's wives was expecting and gave birth last year to a daughter, Rebecca. Proud parents: Wes andLynne Field in Miami. Congrats, guys! PINEAPPLE PRATTLE
If memory serves, there's a heading you've never seen because it's been a while since we've heard from Pete Nottage. He and Lois are at #1 Nohokai Place, Kaneohe, HI 96744. The same day a story on the subject appeared in the New York Times (delivery of the paper is pretty prompt out there!), Pete wrote, "What prompted this letter is the 'Men of Dartmouth' controversy. (Ed. note: Beats last year's ruckusses.) Having just read that Princeton has emasculated its alma mater, perhaps we should also go along. How about 'Folks of Dartmouth' or 'Ye Olde Folkes of Dartmouth'? Oh, Well . . . " Maybe not, Pete. They've still got "Tiger Rag" but we can't sing "Indian Love Call."
Pete is doing some consulting work in construction and real estate development under the name of Nohokai Development Corporation. Lois and a friend have started a garden consulting business which is growing faster than they'd like.
See you in June.
