From two coasts, two walks of life. Chris Langely is a teacher in the Lone Pine Elementary School in Lone Pine, Calif. He's lived there for 16 years now. He has worked hard at developing the Community Theatre there, along with teaching school. "I see all people in the school, and the whole family in the community, as possible players in the dramas we've selected," says Chris. He directs all those dramas and all those people. "No one would start the Community Theatre, so, because Lone Pine needed one, I was glad to do it."
Chris went into the Peace Corps soon after graduation, he met his wife, Sandy, while doing his hitch. They both taught in Iran for a couple of years, many years back. "The way for Iranians to get ahead was to speak and write English," explains Chris. "Everybody wanted to learn, and people were very friendly." How times change things. Chris and Sandy were married in 1968, taught in a mining community in California, and moved to Lone Pine in 1972.
Chris is president of the Booster Club, which is responsible for developing sports in Lone Pine. The Langley kids, Mathew and Simon, are heavily involved in that area, although Mathew has left to begin studies at Stanford. Chris is hard at work in Lone Pine putting the finishing touches on "The Madwoman of Chaillot" the next production of the Community Theatre of Lone Pine.
Bob Swett works in Boston, lives in Newton with wife Laurie, and Mathew, Brian, and Sara-16,10, and 5. Bob works as executive vice president of Boston Properties, a commercial real estate outfit that sells in Boston, New York, and Washington. Bob has played his last rugby ... an event organized by Ted Bracken at our 20th. Gary Jefferson joined Swetty in the effort. "There were some guys from their 25 th there, who played. But they got surprised. Gary and I knew about it and had been working out," reports Bob. The Swetts have a getaway on Winnipesaukee. "It's nicer to watch the leaves turn from a boat than a car," explains Bob. He sees Bill Duval regularly, "If I get the Celtics tickets," he says. And he was scheduled to travel to the Harvard game with Gary Jefferson and PhilWade. Mathew Swett plays soccer for Newton North. "He could be a Dartmouth candidate," says Bob. Mathew is playing on an undefeated soccer team this fall, and has three teammates who have Dartmouth dads. Must be a wild sideline!
Maybe those two very different paths, and those two very different locales, will manage to get together at our 25th.
