At one time in the relatively short past, it was very disconcerting to rush the writing of this column while waiting in noisy, chaotic airline terminals; however, in the past few months a cathedral-iike atmosphere is experienced at most terminals due to the lack of airline business.

I sincerely feel that our economy is on the upswing. However, if the activity at our terminals is used as a barometer to calibrate the economy... I'm quite concerned.

Being a creature of habit and regardless of fashion, I have continued to wear the old-style dark blue business suit (with vest). Many times I have utilized the empty podium-type stand located at the various airline terminal stations to write this column.

I can always count on a half-a-dozen or so frustrated travelers, who have misinterpreted the blue suit for official airlines garb, interrupting my train of thought while throwing the class notes together, asking me check their flight times transfers or requesting transfers, or to find directions to the nearest relief or comfort station.

I used to attempt to explain to these people that I did not work for the airlines but was one of them: however, this got to be quite boring.

I now dispatch them with great efficiency to any airline, quote in record time erroneous flight schedules, and direct with deep compassion those crossing their legs or raising their hand in obvious pain to the terminal manager's Office.

Although this is obviously wrong, those people receiving the mis-advice appear to be completely happy and satisfied because somebody was courteous and prompt in handling their request even though illadvised.

... Just wear a dark suit, locate an empty stand and I'll guarantee that the boring delays can be fun... by the way most all of the terminal managers now request that I wait for my flights in their private offices??

Despite the restrictions, Doctor Bill enjoyed his trip, particularly the freedom and contrast of Copenhagen and Stockholm immediately after Moscow.

I am sure that your vivid descriptions of the North American birds have left the Russians in a confused state of mind?? We are all proud of you Bill and hope that you can describe the mini-skirted species of bird to us at reunion time!!
