Dear Class: April. . . always a crowd-pleaser and one of the better months. In our latitude (41° 19' N.) April is usually a hard right turn into real spring weather.
In contrast to April, January was the worst month of any year, bringing the sad news of the passing of four classmates: Robert Foss, Jack Schleicher, Bill Fitzell, and Donald Hause. Our sympathies go out to their families and friends. Obituaries will appear in this or a later issue.
Moving now to the incoming mail, we have a note from Jack O'Shea. He and Lee were getting ready to head to Florida—taking along a new set of Ping golf clubs, among other goodies. Jack reports all is well in the Laconia area and sent along a feature article from The Laker newspaper, featuring our own Gary Allen. It's a nice story, recalling Gary's work in training and coaching skiers (Penny Pitou among others), his work on the ski jumps at Gunstock, andmost of all—his super job of preparing and overseeing the ski jumps for the 1980 Winter Olympics. We'll look for a report on Calgary, Gary!
Lam Kerins started the new year with a bulletin from Atlanta. All in good health there. He and Ursula were in NYC this past February, joining their youngest daughter for a birthday celeb. She is a pediatric-neurologist on the faculty at Albert Einstein, and married to a doctor. Lam (in answer to my query) reports that he still has the Z-28, now wearing a new powerplant and capable of unimaginable things when running on nitro. On politics, here's Lam: "I view the 13 mental midgets of both parties with dismay. The only good one is still on the sidelines . . . Sen. Bradley."
Reunion co-chair Elmer Browne marked his 70th birthday with a frolic at the Highland Park Club in Lake Wales, Fla. (My spies are everywhere.) Attending classmates: Jack and Kay Ingersoll, Ed andMevie Cockley, Karl and Ginny Bruch,Will Duncan, Lee and Marty Bassett, and Loomie Rogers. (Scotty had a board meeting.) Seventy gets younger every year!
Dr. Lew Chipman is still going strong, keeping the folks in Wilmington on the healthy side. He says it is not as much fun as it once was . . . too much government and too much third party interference.
Any other mail will be gratefully received. See you in May.
