I have been fortunate to run into classmates all summer in the D.C. area. The first event was planned at ElizabethWhitmore's wedding on the eastern shore of Maryland. Many '89s participated in celebrating her marriage to Scott Lurding, whom she met at Harvard Business School. The couple are living in Nashville I hope to see them two-stepping on TNN sometime soon. Kristen von Summer came down from NYC, along with Gesine Albrecht. Kristen recently completed graduate studies and is pursuing a career in interior design, while Gesine is practicing law at Cleary, Gottlieb. Liz Tank Walters andhusband Fred Walters are planning to travel to Central America, where Fred will expand the clinical training that he is doing at UCSF Medical School.
My housemate, Mary Kay McGeown, was also in attendance (bridesmaid). She has recently moved into the public relations field with a new job at the Widmeyer Baker Group. A few weeks later, David Frey stopped by D.C. He is doing research for his dissertation in Eastern European history at Columbia. We had a few beers and talked about his new baby (with Beth Wood Frey) and the effects of Nazi Germany on Hungarian film.
Saw Tom Shakeshaft, a NYC attorney, in a surprise run in at the D.C. getaway beach in Delaware while in a crowded bar. I tried to convince him that he needed to run for office somewhere—but he did appear to be enjoying NYC. Nonetheless, Tom saved me from a too-wild group of companions and treated me to a 1 a.m. pizza. Thanks, Tom!
Chuck Berwick called inter-office when he found out I was working at the Congressional Budget Office. He works for Senator Slade Gorton '49 (R—Wash.). Chuck recently organized a Dartmouth- Penn football game event—ad trip—and will probably be behind similar capers in the fature. Finally, I saw Jen Avellino in Union Station. She is still at CNN.
Who is next?
