The challenge of the Alumni Fund continues. Brooks Parker, our class agent, has assembled another great group to help and the class is fortunate—wherever we are.
Dick and Ruth Blodgett (he's the Tuck '56 class agent), having spent almost four years of living and working in London, are getting ready to return this year to the U.S.A. Dick has been busy with his job with IBM as group director of operations for IBM Finance and Services International, which is the European equivalent of the IBM Credit Corporation. As such he gets into some travel around western Europe and more frequently to their European headquarters in Paris. Dick and Ruth do plan a trip to Spain, perhaps also to Wales and the Lake District in the UK, before they return. Their two daughters, now both out of college and in financial consulting, joined their parents as they spent a delightful family Christmas in Rome. The Blodgetts are also part of New England, having their summer home in Enfield.
Now that Roger Young has successfully closed out another career with the San Diego Crime Commission, and before he gets back into the corporate setting, he's going to take some time off for travel and other pleasures. After spending time in Southern California, having grown very appreciativ of the warmth, he gave up owning a top coat—which undoubtedly made for a special challenge visiting the Midwest during one of the winter's terrific cold spells.
In northern California Bob Sachs continues his practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery in downtown San Francisco. Two years ago, as a result of the oppressive malpractice situation, he formed a captive professional-liability company for colleagues in northern California. He is now president and chairman of the board of Oral Surgeons Reimbursement Fund, Ltd. (As he suggests, he's now open to advice on investments.) Bob has.three daughters, kindergarten to high school. Bob and Phyllis live in Sausalito (which for many of us sounds like combining your vacation home and your work in one place).
Joe Kagle is on the move again. He's settled in Waco, Tex., since becoming director of the arts center there. Joe, Anne, and children Samantha and Chris are adjusting to Texas life and atmosphere, finding that people are "friendly, easy to meet and to know." Joe had an exhibit of his recent creative work at the center in February called "Dream Swimming." It is a series of works on the idea that the mind works and puts things together in new ways when allowed to roam." Joe had been at another museum in Arkansas before more recently taking over the museum in Massachusetts. It's a nice talent to be able to combine creativity and administrative responsibilities.
Buck Kuttner continues to practice law in Newark, N.J., serving also for the American Bar Association as chairman of the trial techniques committee. As such, he is heading to Sweden this spring to lecture. And then there is Buck's place in Eleuthera in the Bahamas where he scuba dives in the beautiful and clear waters. In February, Buck headed back to Jordan and Egypt to dive in the Gulf of Aqaba. It is a sport he can enjoy with his three children.
Last November Pete Dromeshauser merged his company with an old friend from IBM to form Bartholdi, Dromeshauser and Mazzie, with offices in Wellesley, Mass.; Vail, Colo.; and Menlo Park, Calif. (Sounds like Pete could shift his desk according to the seasons.)
Still there's nothing like Hanover!
