Whether or not you love those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, this missive should reach you in the midst of weather that qualifies for lazy and hazy if not crazy. Unless you live "Down Under," of which more in due course.

SCHUYLKILL SCOOP: The Wall StreetJournal beat The New York Times by a week reporting that Roger Hillas, chairman of PNC Financial Corp., a bank holding company in Philadelphia, had been elected a director of Toll Brothers, Inc. of Horsham, Pa. Depending on which paper you read, Toll is a residential construction company or builder of luxury homes. Roger and Mary live at 300 Sweadsford Road, Gwynedd Valley, PA 19437.

HUDSON HOOPLA: John Hintermeister was good enough to relay an update from Sharpes Landing, Germantown, NY 12526. He retired a few years ago from N.Y. Telephone after three decades. Says he doesn't miss the paper work. Couldn't make a phone call instead, John? Anyhow, he's now doing something he wanted to do for a long time: working as a full-time carpenter for a fine residential contractor out of Red Hook. "For the most part now I only write on wood." If things slow down on the Hudson River, see above. Of do you insist on installing bucketball hoops in your work?

G'DAY GOODIES: Not long ago we noted some travels of Larry Huntley. Well, he's been off again, this time to Nevada and California and a month in Australia! "From Melbourne, Echuca, Mildura... by coach... railway to Perth... Alice Springs... Sydney by air... Canberra and The Blue Mountains." If you haven't read The FatalShore, it is good and might inspire you to make the trek Read on.

UP OVER: So Larry couldn't find JimMcCrum 'cause he moved and has unlisted phone (but I know it). Jim says he'll be back here (up here, get it? not down under!) for a couple of months starting as you read this. "Time-share" everywhere (Florida, Poconos, Maui, etc.) and a bus or two to here and there. But Jim did get a postcard from his old roomie, Frank Treadway (170 Las Palmas, North Fort Myers, FL 33903). And Jim's new digs? 5 "Banora Palms," Darlington Drive, Banora Point, N.S.W. Australia 2486.

WALL STREET WEEK: If you didn't watch the first Friday of June PBS crystalball roundtable with Louis Rukeyser, you missed Eric Miller. He said interest rates would peak this summer. Was he right? Is summer over? Inflation? Five percent. But when? Sooner or later, no doubt.

CARLETON COMMENCEMENT: George M. Woodwell (64 Church St., Woods Hole, MA 02543) received an honorary doctor of science degree from Carleton College for his dedicated work in ecology and environmental concerns. After Dartmouth, George got his A.M. and Ph.D. from Duke. His list of credentials and accomplishments is too lengthy for inclusion here, so we'll look for details in sifty, though possibly not precis of his 200 major papers and books.

But space runneth out. See you next month in Hanover for a mini the 19th and 20th? Hope so!
