Lots of news has accumulated since my last column, and I have enjoyed the twomonth summer break in publication. My wife, Rondi, gave birth to our second child, Alice, shortly after I mailed the May column to Hanover, and things have been hectic here in Dallas ever since.

Elsewhere around the country, StuSimms was sworn in to the office of State's Attorney for Baltimore City last December. Stu was previously Deputy State's Attorney for four years. Meanwhile in Georgia, JesseSpikes was appointed chairman of the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections. Jesse is an attorney in Atlanta and was endorsed by the local election board and the League of Women Voters. In New York, Galen Kirkland was a candidate for the state senate seat which represents the Upper West Side. Galen is vice president and general counsel for the West Harlem Community Organization and has been extremely active in local community affairs, especially housing, since receiving his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1975.

In St. Louis, Bill Kirby has been named chairman of Washington University's Committee on Asian Studies. Bill received his doctorate in history from Harvard in 1981 and has been the director of the International Affairs Program at Washington University since 1983. Bill has authored two books and specializes in the history of modern China. Bill Roberts has been named rector of Saint Gregory's Church in Deerfield, I11. J.C. McKenzie is the new managing director and head of municipal investment banking at Ehrlich Bober Financial Corporation in Chicago. Before moving to Ehrlich Bober, J.C. spent ten years with Salomon Brothers, where he managed the municipal capital markets. Don Nichol has been named a partner of the law firm Jacobowitz and Gubits in Walden, N.Y. Don specializes in municipal law, land use, planning and zoning law, and has been with the firm since 1981. Don and his wife Jerri live in Crawford, N.Y.

David Carroll was nominated for a Tony Award for best actor in a musical for his Broadway role in playing the Russian chess master Anatoly in Chess. Although David lost out to the Phantom of the Opera, the recognition will certainly be a boost for his career. Rondi and I watched the Tony Award telecast here in Dallas with Ed Wisneski, who has recently been named the sports information director at Southern Methodist University. Ed worked for a number of years in a similar capacity for both the New York Jets and the Philadelphia Eagles, but most recently worked for the Philadelphia Convention Bureau. Ed and his wife, Susan, are looking forward to getting settled here in Dallas, and to the challenge of representing SMU.
