Rugged Ruggers

As it has done for the past three years, the Dartmouth Rugby Football Club again proved itself a legitimate Division 1 powerhouse. Dartmouth, which compiled a 23-1 record, was victorious at the National Collegiate Sports Festival, the Northeastern Tournament and the Eastern Tournament. Later the Ruggers traveled to Pebble Beach, California, for the national tournament and soundly defeated Bowling Green University in the first round.

Dartmouth entered the final round of the four-team contest with high hopes of bringing home the national title. But its opponent, Cal-Berkeley, which had beaten the Green for the title in '86, won again, 9-3.
