For the charismatic Bob Castle, career life began anew in 1987 with the establishment of his own business, a personnel search agency entitled "Robert Castle Associates." The business is in Chicago, where Bob lives with Kate, whom he married a couple of years ago. After 30 years with N.W. Ayer and Cos., the national advertising agency, ending as general manager and executive vice president, Bob decided to specialize in recruiting executives for advertising agencies on a national basis. From his prior marriage Bob enjoys three children: Grant, who obtained a master's from Northwestern, Steven, and daughter Leslie. With two children and one child, respectively, Grant and Leslie have made Bob a grandfather three times over. Bob's children all live in Connecticut. We hope that Kate and he join us next June for our 40th Reunion.
My old roommate in 404 New Hampshire Hall, Bob Weber, is effervescent. His daughter Nina was accepted with the class of 1992. Bob became a lawyer after securing a master's degree and a doctorate in other disciplines, and practices law with his wife in Century City, Los Angeles. They have also become phenomenally successful in operating restaurants called Marix Tex Mex Cafe (West Hollywood), Marix Tex Mex Playa (Santa Monica), and Marix Tex Mex Norte (Encino). He needs Jack English to tickle the ivories on a rotating basis at those restaurants; if not Jack then the poor man's Jack English, to wit, Skip Ungar.
Speaking of Skip, his old roommate (and mine) in Russell Sage Hall, George Weinstein, has been living in Boca Raton for several years with wife Barbara. George retired as a tax partner in the Miami office of Deloitte Haskins & Sells and regional diector of the firm's personal financial planning services. A CPA and attorney in Florida and Connecticut, George received a law degree from Yale and an M.B.A. from Columbia after graduating summa cum laude from the College. George and Barbara, married for 37 years, have four children, including John '76, who practices law in Los Angeles; Steve is finishing his residency as a doctor in clinical psychology in Atlanta; David owns a pressure cleaning and sealing business in Boca Raton; and Deborah, who has a young daughter, sells real estate in Boca Raton. George authored two books, as well as appeared on radio and television, including "Wall Street Week" with Louis Rukeyser.
I am accused of infidelity to truth. The accuser is Daniel "Deke" Jackson, who states that those digs on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe are for family vacations, and not his residence. Deke and Jeanne still vote in Atherton, Calif., and he is associated with Petroleum Financial Corp. in San Francisco. Deke spent time with Jim Krentler in Honolulu last Christmas. Jim enjoys a sabbatical there. Bob "Rocket" Reed is CEO of one of Hawaii's largest companies, Pacific Resources, and sailed his 50-foot Hinkley to Hawaii from the Caribbean a couple of years ago.
Dick Moersch, regional class agent nonpareil, advises that he ended the active practice of cardiac surgery at the end of 1987 and is now an assistant administrator at Saint Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino, Calif. The redoubtable Dick, one of nature's noblemen, declares that he finds it "fascinating."
Dave and May Raynolds raise buffalo at their Table Mountain Ranch in Lander, Wyo. They sell mainly to other breeders of buffalo, whatever the nell that does for one's psyche. Dave has been president of the National Buffalo Association and is now promulgating arrangements for the international centennial of "Bringing Back the Buffalo," which occurs in 1989 90. He also engages in international venture capital activities and enjoyed a January 1988 cruise with Dartmouth Alumni Abroad to Tierra del Fuego. May and Dave have five children. The eldest, Robert, obtained a B.S. and doctorate from Dartmouth, and their second daughter received her B.S. in one of the early coeducational classes. Dave is rejoicing over the fact that he "'finally had the pleasure of learning that a candidate I'd recommended (for admission to Dartmouth) starts this fall."
