An Honor for the Editor

William B. Rotch '37 is the fifth generation of his family to edit and publish The Milford Cabinet* the weekly newspaper serving Milford, N.H. A few months back the 35th annual conference of the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Edi- tors honored Bill with an award for consistently demonstrating that "good journalism begets good government."

For 50 years Bill Rotch (rhymes with coach) and The Cabinet have led, or maybe shoved, the community into good government. His editorials may praise local officials or criticize them, but no reader is ever in doubt about where the paper stands. With clear and measured conviction—using rea- son and logic and the full power and eloquence of the English language— The Cabinet asks its readers to think about the role they should play in a nation whose government rules by the consent of the governed. There's little doubt Bill Rotch knows how to xAav his role.
