A footnote to Lloyd Wilson's obituary. One of his daughters, Mrs. Deborah Van Atta of San Francisco, wrote: "Both my sister and I have teenaged children. If any of them ever qualify to the high standards of Dartmouth, you might be corresponding with us again." I wish I had her mailing address so that I could express my appreciation for her praise of the College. That letter and news just received from non-Dartmouth friends that their grandson had just applied for admission to Dartmouth by early decision brought home the realization that Dartmouth in this time of troubles still stands tall.
Classmates have complained that these notes seem to contain news of the same classmates, issue after issue. Thus begins a campaign to solicit news from the silent ones.
Dick Henry reports getting back to normal after having suffered six broken ribs in an automobile accident. Consequently, he was unable to fully report on the Alumni Council meeting last spring, but only of the efforts of some "to bring sanity into the situation in Hanover."
Line Page, seen at a geologists' meeting in Denver, was reported as being in excellent shape.
Ed Brummer's new address is Fitzgerald Road, Rindge, NH 03461. He wrote that the Harvard game "was unbelievable after our unhappy years." Ralph Hunter found it unbelievable that I had missed the game. And the score, which I read in the El Paso newspaper on October 16 after returning from a trip to Copper Canyon in Mexico, also seemed unbelievable until next day in Albuquerque, when Art Spiegel confirmed it. Kept thinking how sweet it was throughout my ensuing fishing trip to the San Juan River. Art, by the way, said he was busier than ever.
Driving conditions between Schnecksville and New Haven decided me against accepting the George Conklins' invitation for hospitality after the Yale game, but did I ever enjoy an afternoon at Princeton four weeks later! Saw Edna and Bill Wilson, and hope others were there. I'm mighty glad to change my past predictions of gloom to probable contention for league championship in '89!
