1 While in Bermuda for College Rugby Weekend, the 1951 rugby team reportedly recruited 22 women as cheerleaders by offering them Dartmouth t-shirts. Today the College fields men's and women's rugby teams as club sports.

10 The 1930 Fellowship hosts a lecture by Marcel Ophuls, the maker of the film "The Sorrow and the Pity."

11 The Spoors Leadership Dialogue presents a talk by David Broder.

14 The Board of Trustees meets at 8 a.m.

18 The Franciscan String Quartet performs in Spaulding at 8 p.m.

21 Freshmen Parents' Weekend begins. The popular tradition began as the Freshman Father-Son Weekend in 1949. That year 160 fathers traveled to Hanover to stay in their sons' rooms and attend classes. The Office of Public Programs predicts that 1,300 people will flock to Hanover this year.

22 Happy Birthday, Eleazar Wheelock.

24 Eleazar Wheelock died on this day in 1779. His last words were, "o my family, be faithful unto death."

28 Break out the bucksaws for the forty-third annual Dartmouth Logging Day. Other events include the axe throw and the pole climb. Expect some alumni to compete—this is Class Officers' Weekend.
