Bob gave a talk in Palm Coast, Fla., during World Understanding Month, on the history of Nicaragua starting with independence from Spain in 1821 through the United States occupation and ending with details of the recent years of turmoil.

And from our nation's capital, JohnMonagan reports the following news: Helen and Hank Smith just returned' to Washington from a few somnolent weeks in Puerto Rico at their customary, privileged, and private hideaway. They are feeling no ill effects from this tropical sojourn. Hank remains active with his chairmanship of the Association to Unite the Democracies, a successor organization to Clarence Streit's Federal Union Now. Although the organization has not made sensational progress in reaching its goal of a federation of nations, Hank remains optimistic that its time will come.
Jane and Pete Hart look like sophomores and are remarkably active in a variety of pursuits. They recently won two tickets to Alaska in a raffle, and plan to take off later. Pete's book on Cyprus has been accepted by Duke University Press. Pete is a consultant for Bechtel and is a participating member of the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs.
Hal Mackey's widow, Ginnye, as ebullient as ever, said she had to "hobble around" due to a hip fracture, but her comments remain sharp and amusing and her interest in Dartmouth and '33 are as keen as ever. She's also a recent great-grandmother.
