We're getting mail from classmates who For one reason or another couldn't make it to the May birthday bash in Washington. John Damon blamed unfortunate conflicting circumstances, but writes, "We'll indeed be raising our glasses at the moment you're doing the same at ground zero!" John and his son Ben had recently toured the A.T. Cross plant in Rhode Island, arranged by Ron Boss. "I'm not sure Ron would jump for joy if everybody all came at once, but for those underexposed to the manufacturing process for quality consumer goods, you ought to drop Ron a line and arrange a visit when you're in the vicinity."

He said he and his wife, Cathy, would be joining Tom and Diane Russell and Jimand Lew Gilchrist "for a post-summer, back-to-work celebration cruise of Lake Powell in October on a houseboat . . . We understand the cognoscenti among airline pilots whisper glowing recommendations for Lake Powell cruising and the striped bass are huge!"

Dennis Dinan, former editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine, has joined Upland Properties, a real estate firm concentrating on Hanover-Plainfield-Cornish. He writes, "What pleases me about this change is that, in terms of goals and general outlook, the people of Upland Properties make an especially good match. We all count honest, caring service as a guiding principle, and our aim is to protect not exploit the character of the communities we serve. As proof of this commitment, Upland Properties voluntarily contributes a share of its commissions to local land trusts."

Hartley Webster, who has been active in class leadership over much of the past 28 years, received a master of arts in theological studies, cum laude, from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass., on May 12. According to the school, the two-year program is designed for persons who will use theological education in support of a particular vocation. Hartley will continue to serve as assistant to the pastor at Trinity Church, Congregational. Hartley says the focus of his ministry is upon recovering chemically-dependent persons and their families

Bob Tunnell has joined the San Francisco law firm Gordon & Rees, where he will concentrate on general business law, especially on international trade transactions and finance.

Dr. Irving L. Weissman, professor of pathology at Stanford, is among 60 new members elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Fritz Kern, who had been vice president, marketing, for America Isuzu Motors Inc. (will the real Joe please stand up) has been promoted to vice president/assistant general manager, marketing and planning. You'll recall that Fritz was lone of seven executives hired to start America Isuzu in 1980.

Finally, a plea from John Zulick that more of you write in. He noted, correctly, that most class columns involve the same 100-150 people. John joins me in inviting others to write in or at least be certain that I get news clips of your accomplishments.

John, contacted during an Alumni Fund call, said he's an architect in Madison, N.J., doing a lot of designs for residential custom homes, along with some commercial work, such as a facility for Campbell Soup Cos. He said he recently went into private practice after years of work for Drew University in Madison. He and Carolyn have four children, aged 21 to 27.
