Duck Board Time! Is your lawn sloggy, your house muddy from the tramping of little feet? We guess it depends on what part of the country you live in. Wherever you may live now you must certainly be able to vividly recall the March thaws at Hanover. Despite Hopkins Center, computers, the New Hanover Inn, and all the other changes "the March Mud" of Dartmouth undoubtedly remains the same and the present day students are sloshing across campus as we did 20 odd years ago.

What news does the mail bag bring? Dexter Brooks continues his successful career having been selected a director of the County Federal Savings & Loan Association of Westport, Conn. Dexter is president and publisher of "The Westport News." He is also a trustee and former president of Montessori School of Westchester, a director of the Westport Chamber of Commerce and active as a Boy Scout committeeman. Graduating magna cum laude seems to be an accurate portent of things to come.

Emmett G. Jergensen has been named an associate director of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company of Springfield. Emmett has been with Massachusetts Mutual since graduating. He is active in Republican party affairs and lives with his wife and three children in Springfield.

Joel Goldberg was kind enough to drop a note and bring us up-to-date on his affairs. Joe has been living in Atlanta, Ga., for 14 years, married a local gal and has three little "Georgians." He is vice president and general merchandise manager of Rich's, Inc., a leading local department store. Come on up North and see us sometime, Joe.

A delightful letter from Manny Benero aboard the "USS Shangri-La" somewhere in the Mediterranean. Manny is executive officer of Attack Squadron 95. More important however he informs us that he has given up the race to become the "bachelor" of the class and in August of 1967 married Sherrill Holt Treasreu. Sherrill is following the ship making the tour of duty pleasant for Manny and also into an extended honeymoon. The only problem seems to be Sherrill keeping up with the schedule changes of port of call due to political crises. However, Manny reports that she has not yet missed a port and that she is on her way to becom- ing a marvelous Navy wife. It was good to hear from you. Commander Manny.

Still in the military department ChuckLangley reports that he has been promoted a Colonel in the USMC and as the note came from Washington, D.C., we presume Chuck is in that area. His son, Brad who graduated from Dartmouth Class '67, is now a graduate student at Indiana University and his daughter Cindy is at Simmons in the Class of 1970. George Cohn was thoughtful enough to drop a card from New Haven where he is still living and to wish all of his classmates a Happy New Year. The same to you and your family, George. Dr. TedSottery has been promoted to associate professor of Chemistry at the University of Maine and is presently enjoying sabbatical leave to study the use of TV for college chemistry teaching. Does this mean a better science fiction program than "Star Trek"? His son Peter is an active athlete being on the Junior High football and swimming teams. Ted and his family just moved into a new home at 24 Chamberlain Avenue in Portland, Me. Carl B. Kaufmam writes from Wilmington, Del., where he is publications manager of the DuPont Company. Some of you may have read Carl's book published by Doubleday recently entitled "Mau Incorporate," a set of topical essays on life in the large corporation mixed with a history of attitudes toward work and organizations.

Dick Stevenson informs us that Bing Russell and his family came from California and visited with Dick this past summer. We are sure that you are all aware that Bing is the classmate we all see most due to his frequent appearances on television. His son, Kurt is also a movie and TV star now. Incidentally Dick's son Mark, Class of '71, played center on the Dartmouth freshman football team and we will probably be seeing him in action next fall. Charles Schofield saw Ham Chase, Jack Zimmerman,Walt Peterson at the Cheshire County (New Hampshire), Dartmouth Club meeting. Charles serves on the Police Commissioners Advisory Committee for Sex Education in the schools. His 15-year-old son, Mark, received his varsity football letter at high school and it looks like we have a group of '47 sons coming up for future Dartmouth teams. Help wanted! Sandy Gross reports that he recently left BBDO after 14 years and asks if we know anyone who needs a good man? We are sure that due, to the time lag from the receipt of Sandy's note and the printing of this article his valuable experience and ability have been utilized. Let us hear where you settled down, Sandy. There are certainly varied and interesting occupations among our classmates. One of the most interesting is that of John Rogers who writes from Viet Nam where he is the area development officer with the Agency for International Development. He is working daily with the Vietnamese people in economic development of that country. This is just another foreign assignment in a long list for John who has spent 19 years overseas in underdeveloped countries assisting in aiding unfortunate people. Thank you, John, from those of us whose occupations are not quite so beneficial to society.

Bill Ragan has now come full circle, returning again to Buffalo in the Film Department of the E.I. DuPont Research Division where he started some years ago. He is a research manager and has worked on the development of Mylar among other new products. When Bill moves it's no easy task as he has a family of six children. He reports when he visited Hanover for the first time in 15 years (as all of us who have returned) how he was impressed with the sameness and the differences simultaneously. Roger Reynolds recently moved to 2320 Perry Court, Claremont, Calif., where this past summer he became general manager of Elektron Standard of California. His oldest daughter is at the opposite end of the country and will be graduating from Green Mountain Junior College this spring. Doesn't that name bring back memories?

Aetna Life & Casualty figures large in this month's class notes. Its Hartford, Conn., home office announced the promotions of Bill Bailey to vice president, executive department, casualty and surety division, and of Hal Moulton to assistant vice president, processing department, life division. Bill, who went on from Dartmouth for a master's degree from Wharton School of Finance, has been with the company since 1954, most recently as vice president, underwriting department. Hal earned his MA. at Columbia University and has been with Aetna since 1948. His most recent post was director, life data processing department.

As to family information, Bill and wife Emily are the parents of four and their address is 29 Harvest Lane, West Hartford, while Hal and Dede live at 117 Knob Hill Road, Glastonbury, and are. the parents of three.

Bob Nelson calls himself a "Tin Can Detective" and then parenthetically indicates that he is in the Food Cans business. At the time he wrote he was running for reelection as Town Meeting Member in Arlington, Mass., and has already started the ski season. We hope that it was a good one. Bob Keane has an enviable job as he reports that he recently returned from two business trips to Paris totalling six weeks. He managed to have his wife Barbara and their oldest daughter Joanne each spend a week with him. It seems that United Engineers and Constructors Inc. of Philadelphia are a very generous firm and that Bob must be a highly valued employee. Jim Davis Jr. reports that he spent the past spring and summer in Japan working on a radio transmitter. He serves as a selectman in his home town of Carlisle, Mass.

Hjalmar S. Sundin writes from Crystal Lake, Ill., where he is an associate with Baxter & Woodman, Civil and Sanitary Engineers. Hjalmar and his family served as host for an AFS exchange student from Norway this past summer. He is active in scouting, Kiwanis, and the National Ski Patrol which all together sound like a healthy and stimulating group of activities. Hang on everybody spring is just around the corner. What comes with spring other than good weather and a great feeling? The Alumni Fund Drive naturally. Start thinking about it now and help our new class agent Dick Menin get off to a roaring start.
