Howard Alcorn had the misfortune to trip over his dog on September 8 and sustain a broken hip. Berta reports, as of September 12, that Howard is comfortably reclining in his Hartford Hospital bed, but that the expected full recovery will take a while. Only such an occurrence keeps Howard (temporarily) from continuing to hear cases before the Connecticut Supreme Court, of which he has long been chief justice.

Henry Perkins is enjoying life alone in the small Vermont town of Waitsfield though many relatives and friends are nearby. A call elicited a remembrance of Henry's early experience as a member of the World War I 10th Mounted Division mounted not on horses but on skis. Henry continues to ski on the slopes surrounding his home town.

Vince and Connie Baldwin, as a vacation trip, drove through 250 miles of wilderness along the southern border of Lake Superior. They were about to attend the consecration in Washington, D.C., of the newly completed National Cathedral, under construction since 1907 the 6th largest Catholic cathedral in the world.
