Charles Palmer reports that his wife, Marion, is showing marked improvement after her massive stroke. I previously reported in a DAM news note that the prognosis was discouraging. Currently Marion's condition is increasingly responsive, Cap was pleased to state. Cap also notes that he is listed in the "Contributors' Index" of the Kitty Kelly book about Nancy Reagan and adds that he knew both Nancy and Ron even before they met each other.
Phil Segal forwarded to me an obituary on Mark Whitman, who died on August 19. A copy had been sent to me already by Mark's widow, Marie. This veiled hint will stimulate me to get this and other obits on their way to our editor. So thank you, Marie and Phil.
The envelope from Phil was postmarked West Palm Beach, Fla. Does this mean, Phil, that you and Myrtle have abandoned the rigors of Marblehead, Mass., for the warm sun of Florida? Phil's letter included the observation that "Myrtle and I are fine within the limitations of just slowing up"—a statement that most of us 1923 classmates can doubtlessly apply to ourselves on reaching this mature age, well past our teens.
Emanuel Rubins continues his interest in music with active membership in the Newton Symphony Orchestra. This must mean that Manny is a virtuoso with his violin. To make sure that I had just the right word, I checked my Webster's and was pleased to find how right I was: "virtuoso: a highly skilled musical performer (as on the violin)."
