Taylor Smith and Helene made their home nearly 20 years ago at Carmel Valley Manor, a retirement community of some 55 housing facilities, from homes to studio apartments. Taylor mentioned in a recent letter to his '23 secretary that he has had little opportunity for contact with Dartmouth since attending the alumni dinner in San Francisco which was addressed by President Freedman in his first year with Dartmouth. Tay was not aware how long ago his graduation year of 1923 had been until it was stated from die podium that members of his class represented the oldest class present. Tay comments that years ago a family doctor told him that any- one hoping for a satisfactory and active old age should get a stubborn chronic disease and take good care of it. Tay admits to the chronic disease of bronchial asthma, "which thanks to Scripps Clinic at La Jolla is under great control." He also admits to having quit golf five years ago but does continue with morning calisthenics, walking a hilly circuit at a good clip, and bowling on the green.

Charles J. Zimmerman's 90th birthday was celebrated on January 9 at a luncheon at the cafeteria of the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company by nearly a hundred members of the company's Quarter Century club. Charlie's long experience with this company led to his becoming president and later chairman of the board of directors. I trust that his classmates will refer to their copies of Issue No. 1 of '23s Golden Review, dated February 1971, for its listing of Charlies's many honors throughout his career.
