Remember the Thanksgiving snowstorm that overwhelmed much of the East? Burt and RuthCrandell were schedule to leave Hanover the following day. If their ski-planes were able to get off the Lebanon and Boston runways they should be basking in Eleutheran sunshine as I write this. The same day Tucson had the nation's high, with an 80. As if you could forget, Burt asks me to remind you of the 30 + 60 = 90 Reunion, which takes place June 11-13, 1990. Y'all be there.
A November note from Bill OBrion mentions that there have been several additions to the Robert McClory 1930 Memorial Fund. I hope the year end brought more contributions, with consequent reductions in your contributions to the IRS.
Ed Herz's son, Peter '59, calls my attention to an apparent oversight in Ed's obituary, which appeared in November (and possibly missing from the College's records as well). As stated, Eleanor Smith, Peter's mother, died in 1966. In 1967 Ed married Anne Pierce Sabella, who lived only until 1972. According to Peter, Ed was deeply saddened by her untimely death, after some of the happiest years of his life. It would certainly De Ed's wish that she be mentioned. After Anne's death he married Peggy Dilts Hudson, who survives.
Though belatedly, I wish to express my sympathy, and that of the class, to BobKeene in his recent loss. Even though they lived for years in a distant corner of the North American continent, Bob and Louise were frequent visitors to Hanover and our reunions, setting an example for all of us.
Social notes from all over: As rumored, the Widmayers are spending February and March in Green Valley. What's more, President Widmayer will be the guest speaker at the Tucson Dartmouth Club luncheon February 9. Come one, come all!
With a December 1 deadline, it's still November here, but already I'm too late to send you holiday greetings. However, I'm not too late to wish you all a Happy New Decade. Only ten years to a New Century and our 70th! See you there.
