This may be my mid-winter update but we certainly sound like a class for whom things are coming up roses. McFall "Mac" Kirby called me as soon as MikeCapuano was elected mayor of Somerville, Mass., to tell me his old roommate's good news.

Mike grew up in Somerville and has been an alderman there since 1975, serving the last few years as an alderman-at-large. I tried to reach Mike for a little more of the homey news but, unfortunately, got one of the little Capuano's on a tape—evidently the mayor's spokesman. At any rate, Mike, congratulations and good luck from all of us!

Mac now resides in Scottsdale, Ariz., to which he recently emigrated after a year and a half in Palo Alto. He's an attorney, practicing with Jamie Cook '7l, and specializing in technology licensing, trademark, and copyright law. Mac boasts of a son born in September and duly registered for Dartmouth.

We also have good news from Winston Salem where R. Harrison Marks has been named to head retail banking administrative services for First Wachovia Corporation.

It was great hearing directly from JohnElias on his acceptance of a partnership with Chicago-based Keck, Mahin & Cate. John wrote: "I'm a business and tax lawyer with a heavy emphasis on transactional work. My wife, Cindy (also a Harvard law graduate), and I have two children, Daniel 6 and Allison 4. I work out of the firm's Peoria office, which suits our life-style and my mediocre golf and tennis games just fine. Cindy is reacly to rejoin the cushy 9-to-5 crowd after six years at home raising our children."

And from Vermont, another totally voluntary communication: "Rob Bast, whose name has seldom, if ever, graced this column, has managed to scrape together some news. After Dartmouth graduation, I worked for a few years (designing and building), earned a degree in civil engineering from UVM, worked for a while longer (engineering and designing), and this year earned a license in architecture. I've been happily married for a decade, have a son 6, a daughter 3, and presently chair the board of selectmen in my town of Hinesburg. The north country is great I don't often get even as far south as Hanover."

Will Hiltz reported in from New York where he has been living and working with Smith Barney since 1982. Currently, Will is managing director of Smith Barney's junk bond and merchant banking operation. Will and his wife, Judy, have a six-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter.

I won't apologize for singing GeorgeWolohojian's praises again because I could never do it enough to reward his efforts on the College's behalf during his recently completed tenure as head agent. George has been awarded the Chairman's Citation for outstanding service to the Alumni Fund. Congratulations, George, and thank you again from all of us.

Meanwhile, Paul Sehl has been busy following in George's oversized footsteps as well as taking big strides on the personal front. Paul has started a new job as VP sales and marketing with Plansmith, a software company catering to the needs of small and medium-sized banks.

While this was welcome news for Paul, it has complicated his goal of recruiting new Alumni Fund agents. The phone numbers published in my last column were already obsolete when you read them. Paul's new work number is 708/359-4045 and his home number, complete with new area code, is 708/234-0193. Paul will be very busy trying to make a success of both new jobs, so please help him out by calling to volunteer as a new or continuing class agent as soon as possible.
