Being a class secretary is a feast or famine kind of experience This month was definitely one for feasting. The first course arrived courtesy of one who knows the syndrome well, '31 Class Secretary Ralph Maynard '31. Ralph forwarded a newspaper article announcing the opening of a new Air Products and Chemicals Inc. facility, the Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturing Center East, in Allentown. Penn. Often quoted in the article was our own John Boyle, who opened the plant, an ultrahigh purity facility, as general manager in February. Congratulations and good luck, John
Another veteran class secretary, MartHarty, somehow found time in his busy schedule I suspect Hanover is on a second file cabinet for his contributions as an alumnus by now to send lots of news: George Kidder serves as treasurer on the board of trustees of the Fenn School in Concord, Mass. He is currently working in Boston as a money manager with Frontier Capital. Brad Little is president of his own telecommunications company in New Hampshire. Russ Kelley and wife Pat have four children and live in Norwell, Mass. Russ is in private practice as a radiologist. JakeJohnston has a son who is now about a year old. Jake is currently assistant principal of a school just outside of Toronto, where he also does some coaching. (I'll assume it; hockey. My first instinct on reading about Jake's son was to wonder if he would grow up to be a solid little spark-plug like Dad.) WayneDavis, our former and faithful president, is continuing his work with Kidder, Peabody as a stockbroker. The market seems to be treating Wayne and his clients very well. He and Ann (a consultant with Bain & Co.) have three kids, a condo in Boston's BackBay, and a farm in Maine Pete Smith and Martha are happily established in Jacksonville, Fla., with two kids, Brian and Sara. Pete is a triathlon athlete and, in his spare time, a senior executive with Gate Oil.
Thanks for the news, Mark!
Steve Kessner called from the Alumni Fund Telethon in New York a subtle hint to get those pledges in and offered a little personal news or the side. Steve is a real-estate developer, enjoying what he calls "good opportunities since he was well positioned before the slump. This is probably very lucky, since Steve and his wife are raising five sons, ages 2-15.
An article which appeared in the Wall Street Journal in February suggested that John Hauge, formerly a special assistant to the undersecretary for finance in the Bush Administration, was expected to fill a newly-created Treasury post as a deputy assistant secretary for Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. We'd love to hear some follow-up or. that, John. People often ask what you have beer up to. At least now we know it's been interesting!
