We have lost three classmates since our last. AlSteffen on March 10, PaulJones on March 20, and Danny Dyer on April 1. We have also just learned of the death of Alex Fraser, way back in February of 1980. Obituaries are scheduled to appear in this or succeeding issues.

We learned from Bill Green that HarryGates has written what Bill calls a "remarkably candid autobiography which is scheduled to be in print this September. It is entitled More Than a Prophet and Bill suggests that "it should be of interest to classmates as an illuminating remembrance of things past."

Doc and Chip Tower, along with Billand Bunny Webster, meandered around the Caribbean in a bare-boat rental this past April. Before setting off, Doc related that he and Betsy Emmons had played some "forgettable" golf with Bob and PollyCushman in Naples.

While perusing a recent Yankee Magazine we found a brief item complete with picture (vintage 1934) of Ed Wakelin and five pair of brothers, including Ed and his brother, Fred. These callow youths had managed to build the Biddeford Pool (Maine) Yacht Club in two summers. The club now has a membership of 100 and the story suggests that a 50th anniversary celebration was held in 1984 with seven of the original ten returning.

If you want an example of a busy Dartmouth Club, try the one in Sarasota, Fla. We know personally of some engaging meetings they held this winter, and now we learn from Chick Spiltoir that in April he and Shirley, along with Dick and Sue Baldauf, took a three-hour boat trip on Tampa Bay, sponsored by the club.

In case you missed the item elsewhere in this magazine, we think it would be useful to advise that CASE (The Council for Advancement and Support of Education) presented the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine with a gold medal for periodicals (staff) writing based on five staff-written features in the magazine. A second gold medal was awarded for best college magazine, and a silver medal for best article of the year. When we last heard, the Magazine was wondering if we qualified for medals in the university division.

Haas Warrener writes, "In February/March, Mary Jane and I took an apartment in North Carolina for a month to learn about Tarheels. It was good fun considering the fact that we didn't know anyone. We also spent a few days in South Carolina and Maryland. On May 3, Mary Jane suffered a stroke. She is now back home and at Barn-stable County Hospital where she is receiving intensive therapy for speech and motor control. Say a prayer for her!" This was written from Cape Cod in mid-May.

We wish you all a pleasant and safe summer, and hope that many of you are planning to return to Hanover for our mini-reunion and the first football game over the weekend of September 14-15.
