Thanks to Frank Aldrich '45 for passing on the information that his old friend, Keith DeCourcey, was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame last August. Those of us who played football in the fall of '42 remember Keith as a tough running back who had entered Dartmouth from the Dallas, Ore., high school along with Duane "Hams" Potter, the lanky end. After WW II service, Keith, like a number of our classmates, chose to return to college nearer home, entering the University of Oregon where he ultimately was a member in 1948 of the Oregon Cotton Bowl team.
Another classmate enjoying retirement is the Reverend George Razze. George and Nancy now occupy a waterfront home in Old Lyme, Conn., and were featured in the annual financial report of the Episcopal Church as it described the church's retirement process and benefits for its clergy. George retired in January 1989 after 32 years in the priesthood and is "busier than I've ever been." Last June he united Amy Chisholm and Brad Mattel in marriage in Wolfeboro, N.H., Amy being the third daughter of Stanley and Marion Chisholm. Also George and Nancy were able to spend a couple of days in April with fellow Episcopal priest George Magoon, and his wife, Joanne, in Henderson, N.C.
Nice note from Phil Struhsacker reporting that he and Marge have purchased a home in Albuquerque, N.M., having decided to spend winters there and the remainder of the year in their principal residence in Sugar Hill, N.H. With winter golf on the flat land and skiing in the adjacent mountains, the land of the Lobos sounds extremely inviting!
Not retiring yet is Doug Leigh, whose one-man advertising agency is thriving out of his home in Weston, Conn. After being with major ad agencies in N.Y.C. for 20 years, Doug decided to establish a small agency in Connecticut. First with two partners, then, since the late 1970s on his own, Doug has developed "Doug Leigh and Company" into a sophisticated and successful operation, proving that with discipline and creativity small size can indeed compete with the big agencies.
Among their several grandchildren, Jack and Ruth Howard have a granddaughter at Cornell with basketball, volleyball, and track talents, as well as a 6'-6" 250 lb. grandson who was a defensive tackle last fall on a very good University of Montana football team. Does Jack get the prize for the largest grandchild to date?
Since our last issue, I've learned of the passing of three more classmates: Lawrence Borges Kidder of Lexington, Ky., on March 22, 1989; Ralph Bertram Hersey Jr. of Norwood, Mass., on November 20, 1989; and John Milton Alden of Needham, Mass., on December 13, 1989. Our deepest sympathy goes to Nancy Kidder, Edith Hersey, and Joan Alden and to the other members of their families.
