After four years on this job, I finally wised up and leafed through a copy of my father's Tuck School Alumni Magazine. I found a hitherto untapped goldmine of data on our classmates who finished out their days in Hanover at the B-School. So this month I'm taking it easy and leaving the writing to someone else. They report:
Alan Tuck is still holding forth as vice president/marketing and business development at Biogen in Cambridge, Mass. Biogen is one of the original biotechnology firms, which Alan joined after a stint with Bain & Company (consultants). He reports that the company is emerging from a turnaround with a much brighter future than its immediate past. He and wife Susan are living in Sherborn, which they love, along with their two daughters, Blakely and Ashley. This past year they have been able to scratch the travel itch with trips to London, Egypt, Geneva, Paris, and other areas of France.
Tom Ostermueller recently changed jobs. After 11 years with McKinsey & Co., he joined Bristol-Myers Company as vice president for planning; while at McKinsey he worked with the company, so he thinks he knows what he is getting into. Along with the job change has come a move to a new home in Westport, Conn., which is closer to children's school and the train station (he is a commuter, again).
That's it for the pure copywork portion of this month's column even I can't take any more. But those of you who dissected frogs at the Medical School can expect double coverage henceforth as well. Up until this point I've neglected to monitor the class notes section of the DMS alumni mag which has been mailed to me for some unknown reason for years now.
Bill White opted elsewhere for his but we include mention of him in keeping with our column's business-oriented theme. Bill boasts nearly 20 years with The Travelers Companies, and has evidentally kept his nose to the grinding stone. We congratulate him for his promotion to vice president and treasurer of the company. Bill toed the line over the years in several capacities in the management services, executive, and securities departments. Most recently he had served as second vice president in the Investment Group and as a member of the investment strategy committee. He continues on as a member of the executive committee, the board of the Combined Health Appeal of Greater Hartford, and as chair of the development committee. Tell us, Bill, are there any jobs left for anyone else? Oh, by the way, Bill learned how to juggle all these acts in the M.B.A. program at the University of Hartford.
We close this month with the initial final reminder of our 20th Reunion upcoming from June 14—16, 1991. Our previous reunions have been highly successful and well attended, with a fascinating mix of stimulating activities and social events. None of the P.R. people who write me about all of your monumental achievements make a showing, so the veneer is very quickly stripped away. Wayne Osmond will be the reunion chairman and he awaits calls from all volunteers at 617/899-1737. Join us next June so your style will be really polished for the heavy duty reunioning at our 25th!
