Undoubtedly you have heard about the November (15 Gala at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, New York City, to kick off the I capital campaign with a goal of $425 million. Our own Link Washburn will be awarded the Presidential Medal for Outstanding Achievement and Leadership for ms significant contribution to society, presumably for his extraordinary work over many years in the Arctic regions.

Frank Hermes mailed a delightful three-generation photo of himself with son Frank Jr. 65 and grandson Jim '91. The record shows that at our 25th, with two daughters then in college, Frank was wondering how to find a place at Dartmouth for his son Frank.

Earl Arthurs recently varied his routine of traveling the world on cruise ships to raft down the Colorado through the Grand Canyon. Other classmates are trying to keep up With him. For instance, Scotti McPherson and wife Pat cruised the Caribbean in May, followed by Budapest (not too good), Vienna (excellent), North Carolina, Minneapolis, Wisconsin, and finally back to Mt. Dora, Fla., by the end of September.

Charlie and Jean Sewall are taking off for Europe, making full use of the Concorde and the Orient Express. They will be officially welcomed by the Lord Mayor in Coventry (completely rebuilt after Hitler's raids), where one of Charlies's ancestors was the mayor in 1597. Doug and Millie Hamilton have been doing things in a different way by spending summers traveling around the U.S. in a motor home. With a winter home in Florida they have just purchased property in Sussex, N.J., tor more sedentary summers in the future.

Jukie and Harry Deckert celebrated their 50th with the entire family, including five grandchildren. One of the latter was Clay Buckley, co-captain of the Duke basketball team, which won the national title at its fourth successive appearance in the Final Four. This coming year Clay will be the only North American on an Argentinian professional team. Obviously the young man inherited his athletic ability from Harry, who recently made his second hole-in-one after a lapse of 45 years.

To close on a sad note, we very recently lost our classmates Sel Hannah and Don Waggaman.
