The '36 Fall mini-reunion in Hanover October 11-12 was, as usual, a great success. The festivities began about 5:30 Friday afternoon when some 60 classmates, spouses, and friends gathered in a private dining room at the Norwich Inn, where a delicious buffet dinner was presented. President Bill Macurda welcomed us all, and Harry Coronis gave us a short recap of the trip to Greece.
Saturday morning the executive committee set the dates for next year's spring and fall mini-reunions: May 8-9 and September 18-19. If you are planning to stay at the Airport Economy Inn, be sure to make your reservations well ahead of those dates. Also for 1992, Boyce Price had been asked to check into the possibility of arranging a clambake somewhere in Connecticut and found that mystic Seaport could cater such an affair at reasonable cost. A tentative date has been set for July 21 with July 28 as a back-up.
The group adjourned to the parking area by Thompson Arena for '36 tailgating The weather was cloudy and quite chilly, but most of us proceeded undaunted to Memorial Field for the game with Holy Cross. The seats in our class section were terrific for a changeclose to midfield and not too high up. Unfortunately Dartmouth lost. By the time you read this it will be a matter of record whether or not Dartmouth has done better playing against Ivy League teams.
Following the game we all wended our way up to Robert Frost Lane where Bob andTanna Fernald, our perennial hosts, provided us with liquid refreshment. And in spite of the loss to Holy Cross, the atmosphere was convivial, and the view was spectacular even on a cloudy day. From Fernald's on to Pierce's Inn for an open bar and then dinner, crowned by a dessert that was billed as some sort of rum concoction. Actually, it looked and tasted more like their famous Mud Pie but, in any case, it was really scrumptious. After dinner the ever-faithful Paul Lynch settled in at the lounge piano and played just about anything that was requested for the usual sing-along. Paul Guibord with help from Jackie did his usual fine job in arranging for lodging at the Airport Economy Inn and for the dinners at the Norwich Inn and Pierce's. Our thanks to them, and to Bob and Tanna.
As for the previously mentioned trip to Greece, 15 classmates, led by Harry Coronis were enthralled by the beautiful scenery and moved by the sense of history evoked in so many of the places they visited. In addition to Harry and his wife, Rose, the travelers were Bob and Tanna Fernald, Al and Jane Gibney,Frank and Gerry Kappler Clay and HelenMellor, Tom and Jean Parker, Phyllis England, Madge Page, and Isabelle Pounder. They all gave much credit to Harry for a well-run and most interesting tour.
One more note for 1992: Fred "Babo" Babcock is planning another "Babo's Bash" at his ranch in Punta Gorda, Fla., to be held some time during St. Patrick's Day week. Stay tuned for farther information.
In the meantime, Happy Holidays!
