The unusual weather has been a topic of conversation just about everywhere this year. Here in Maine we were beginning to think we would get away with a really mild winter, but we had one surprise snowfall in January and then in early February a blizzard dumped about 15 inches of snow on us. That, along with predictions of another storm on the way, may have prompted more of us to think of spending extra time in the sunny South perhaps even joining the dozen or so who regularly spend some of the year at Burnt Store Marina in Punta Gorda. Bob Fernald tells me that the developers at Burnt Store are adding or have already added a dozen more condos and about 100 new homes. There should be room for everybody!
On a more personal note, Bill and Hilly Niss celebrated Their first anniversary on February 12. In February Bill said that as they start their second year things are better than ever. At the time, they were sitting in the cozy new sun room of their home in Cumberland Foreside overlooking the blue waters of Casco Bay, Maine. Things aren't all bad up here!
Pete Fitzherbert, another one of us who spends most of the winter in Maine (Auburn) was expecting a visit from his daughter Nancy, who was coming over from England later in the month to brighten his life for two weeks, joined by granddaughter Becky for one of those weeks. These two ladies, along with Becky's sister Claire, charmed all of us last summer at Pete's 80th birthday celebration a salute to a "Rare Old Bird."
Our spring mini-reunion, as usual, will coincide with Class Officers Weekend, May 5-7. Paul Guibord has once again reserved a block of rooms at the Airport Economy Inn. There is no guarantee as to the weather, but you probably remember that it can be great in Hanover in May, so why not join the group?
Sadly, I will not have my usual navigator on that trip. My wife, Nancy, passed away February 15.
