During a recent seminar I was freshly reminded that New Hampshire, on June 21,1788, was the ninth state to ratify the Constitution, providing the required number to give birth to our United States of America. Congratulations! All us '34s have a connection with history.

Al Yankauer was highly honored by the American Public Health Association with its 1990 Award For Excellence for his 15 years as editor of the American Journal of Public Health and his major contributions to advancement of the public health profession. This climaxed his career of teaching and working at Cornell, Rochester, Albany, Harvard, and Boston, where public health concerns were his primary target.

A lot of '34s find that a tour is a good way to celebrate an anniversary. Dick and MayHouck celebrated their 20th with a fine threeweek tour of Switzerland, but were sorry it coincided with our mini. No other commitments could keep our faithful Dartmouth football rooters, Gene and Nina Orsenigo, from attending that opener. Likewise, Georgeand Kay Thomas were there with family. George is now beyond the teacher age but keeps busy as a tutor.

I haven't seen Art and Barbara Willis at any travelogues recently, but they traveled on their own to visit their son in California and take a tour of Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. They engaged in lawn bowling when back in Scarsdale.

Driving down from Hanover this fall I saw a "Southbury, Conn." sign and was reminded of Bill and Dorothy Haist. Luckily, they were home, and I had a chance to visit in their new residence. It's an impressive development of 130 units which Bill helped sponsor in the Heritage Hills Community where they have been living, and it's aimed at more comfort and future security for retired residents.

Last month I listed our top ten states for current '34 addresses. Nowhere are the states you could currently move to if you want to be a '34 pioneer: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming. In a listing of residence changes in the the 1934 Newsletter I put Art MacGregor in Alaska, but that turned out to be just a visiting address, so Alaska is still open.
