As I prepare these '23 Class Notes, it is the fateful fifteenth of January and military action in the Persian Gulf appears imminent. Though not of international significance, possible interference with plans of those who may be in the service and intending to enter Dartmouth College in the near future is of great importance to such persons. One of these is Jack Chapin, grandson of John Meehan. It is to be hoped that Jack will be carrying out his plans on his forthcoming honorable discharge to visit Hanover and enroll in Dartmouth College in the not-too-distant future.

Clarence Goss, as reported by his son, Donald '53, had a small heart attack early in December, followed by a major episode that was devastating. He died on January 15.

Elmer (Ike) Phillips, our long-time, efficient Class Notes writer, died on November 27.Don Goss, in the previously mentioned letter, mentioned that he had represented the class of '23 at Ike's funeral, and that "it was beautifully done and to a packed church" an indication of the high esteem held for Ike in his retirement area.

Carl Gray experienced a bout of pneumonia that took him to the hospital. He has now returned home and is well on the road to recovery.
