As I sit writing this on a wintry Connecticut night, it is just a week before January 15. I wish I could guess what the world situation will be as you read this. The work of the Planning Steering Committee has now been completed and submitted to the trustees. As I mentioned last month, Bob Downey and I had the privilege of giving some input as the report was being prepared. For all concerned with the future of Dartmouth it is a document well reading.

A bit of Dartmouth trivia for you. Can you name the small settlement which sat on the Vermont side of Ledyard Bridge? It is now a part of Norwich, but not so in earlier days. My father, class of 1925, used to get off the train there when coming to Dartmouth, walk across the old covered bridge and up Wheelock Street to Hanover. I used to get my shoes repaired down there during our four years "on the plain." Look for the answer if you don't know it already, in next months column. If you do know the name, contact me for a free swim off my dock in Lake Fairlee during our 35th Reunion in June 1992!
