As you read these notes the class of 1991 will have joined our ranks as alumni ae. Ed Caress is the proud parent of a '9l. His son Peter received his A.B. and now will stay on to earn his Bachelors of Engineering at the conclusion of the fall term. Anybody out there looking for a bright, hardworking computer engineer? Ed continues as a professor of chemistry and associate dean of the graduate school at George Washington University. His wife, Ginger, is a patent agent with special interest in patents that are concerned with some aspect of nuclear energy.

The fifties for 'sBs continues to be a time when our classmates begin to move into new chapters in their lives. This used to be called "retirement." Joe Slotnick is busier than ever. Among his new endeavors is the responsibility of being a trustee at Bennington College.

During the Class Officers Weekend in late April Mel Alperin was honored with an Alumni Award for his many activities on behalf of the college. I would also note that he just headed up the United Way drive for his home state of Rhode Island. You are to be congratulated, Mel.

Ted Harris continues his work at the Stanford Medical School, reports wife Mary Ann. In something of a lament she noted that he has become "a rabidly enthusiastic Californian," making time to play golf during the day and his bass at night with the Redwood City Symphony. Mary Ann is working with Youth Family and Assistance, a non-profit agency devoted primarily to runaway and homeless teenagers. The futures for those teenagers and ours will be the brighter for Mary Ann's labors.

The New York Times reported that CarlMcCall has been named to the New York City Board of Education. In accepting this responsibility, Carl stated that the school system had to do more to convince children that the way to succeed in life was to stay in school. Worth pondering. Makes me wonder what I might be able to do for my local public schools. Carl will continue his work as a vice president for government relations at Citibank.

Our very own John Graf has been elected to the board of directors of the Smaller Business Association of New England. To an already busy schedule John will be adding efforts to put forward the needs and interests of New England companies ranging in size from sole proprietorship to 500 employees.

Here are some words that made me want to pause and reflect. Bob Zoulousky wrote, "The one and one-half years I spent in Hanover have given me a feeling for the world, great pride at being a part of Dartmouth, and, immodesdy, a touch of class. I love Dartmouth. I am, however, afflicted, like Patty Duke and two million others, with a terminal mental and emotional disease called, 'mood swing' or 'bi-polarism,' but because of the spirit and memory of Dartmouth, I survive and love life."
