I just returned from Hanover and a meeting to organize Class Officers' Weekend, and select the Class of the Year. Hanover has changed drastically in the last few years. Now it has sophisticated and cosmopolitan offerings including shops selling chocolate, gourmet coffee, very vogue women's clothing, and even lingerie! When we were in school the closest place to find a turtleneck for women (my age, that is) was Woodstock, and anything more fashionable was found in Boston.

I also noticed coeds on dates featuring candle light and chardonay. A romantic night in our day was having a brew around the pooltable at the KA house. I did go to the Dartmouth-Harvard hockey game one season (as romanticized in "Love Story"), but I had to promise not to tell anyone I was a Dartmouth coed. Ryan O'Neal was nowhere to be found.

Speaking of the Dartmouth-Harvard hockey game, news from Tom Kent is that he is presently en route to Texas to work on an off shore oil rig. Tom is an entrepreneur/ president/construction worker in the area where he lives with his wife, Janet, and children Rose 7 and Hazel 4.

In another adventure, Rick Ranger, wife Cathy, and son Owen are off to Anchorage, Alaska, and a new job Rick is now director of exploration permitting for ARCO Alaska Inc. They are presently building a home there. More details on the events in the Ranger family will be available next month.

Congratulations to Charles F. Bass, who maintains his seat in New Hampshire's Senate District 11. Charles, a resident of Peterborough, has held that seat for the past two years. He is chairman of High Standard Inc. in Dublin and has lived in New Hampshire all his life. He served three terms in the New Hampshire House before being elected to the Senate. His committee assignments have included being vice chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and he has also been a member of the Land Conservation and Investment Program Committee and the New Hampshire Humanities Committee.

Another candidate for election this year was Howard E. Gwynn. Howard won the position of Commonwealth Attorney for the citizens of Newport News, Va. He attended the University of Michigan Law School and took a job as attorney for the U.S. Customs Service and Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C. Howard retired from his prosecutorial job to seek election.

Bill Perrell and his wife, Cheryl Harrison, report that the marina district in San Francisco is returning to its pre-quake norm. Bill is co-founder of the firm Marketel International. Cheryl is president of Harrison Design Group, featured in this month's HOW magazine, one of the voices of the graphics design industry.

Michael DeGenring and wife Sheryl have moved from Bakersfield, Calif., to Denver, where Michael was promoted to vice president, finance and control, Arco Coal Co.

Brian O'Hanlon and wife Betsy Shiland recently had their first child. Brian is research planner for the Energy Coordinating Agency of Philadelphia. Betsy is chair of the medical records department at the Community College of Philadelphia. Congratulations to both.

Jack Martin, who is one of our men m the reserves, has been called to Saudi Arabia. He has a top secret clearance and it is rumored that he has a high intelligence position. Hopefully we'll have his report next month.
